1. SERAP Sues Health Ministry, NCDC Over ‘Failure To Account For COVID-19 Money’
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) filed a lawsuit against Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health, and Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director-General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), "their failure to account for the public funds and other resources spent so far and used to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria."
In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/616/2020 filed at the Federal High Court last week, Abuja, SERAP seeks: 'an order for leave to request for judicial review and a mandamus order to guide and compel the Minister of Health and the NCDC to publish reports of the federal and state governments and the private sector's funds and resources, as invited.
2. The Government of the Jigawa State, led by Governor Badaru Abubakar, ordered the immediate restart of interstate travel and the suspension of all security checkpoints at its border.
Governor Badaru who gave the directive on Saturday while briefing newspeakers at Government House, Dutse, also noted that the state currently has only one positive COVID-19 patient in its isolation center.
He announced that seven COVID-19 patients had recently been discharged after they had completely recovered, and also noted that the response strategy for the COVID-19 condition continually yields results.
"As we ease the lockdown, lift the ban on weekly market days and allow for interstate travel, these must also be disbanded.
3. Drama as police prevent Akeredolu’s deputy from leaving govt house
Before his scheduled departure from the All Progressive Congress, APC, to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, was stopped by security agents from moving his property from the Government House on Saturday evening.
The Deputy Governor was at the Government House with some of his aides to move his personal property out, ahead of his expected defection this week but was stopped.
The security agents were said to have asked Ajayi to come back on Sunday in broad day light, under the supervision of government officials.
4. Akeredolu denies involvement in Deputy-Police saga
Ondo state Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu denied allegations that on Saturday night he was responsible for police action against his deputy, Hon Agboola Ajayi.
His boss, Hon Ajayi, was being held back by Ondo Police Commissar Bolaji Salami at the Government Building. The CP insisted his official vehicles would not leave.
Akeredolu, described the report as a complete falsehood in a statement by its chief press secretary, Segun Ajiboye.
According to him, playing victim by the principal actors involved is an intentional fallacy.
The governor added it was a concordant and devious lie that was meant to discredit him.
5. Nigeria intercepts 2 Indians for illegal entry during Covid-19 pandemic
The Nigeria Immigration Service's Lagos Airport Command, NIS, has intercepted two Indian nationals for entering Nigeria illegally without proper documentation.
Lagos Airport NIS Comptroller, Abdullahi Usman who confirmed this stated that the 2 Indians both male were intercepted during the screening of Indian nationals that were been evacuated from Nigeria through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos.
6. N-Power: Enrollment of new beneficiaries to begin as first two batches exit in June, July
On Friday, the Nigerian government announced it would start enrolling a new batch of N-Power recipients.
Humanitarian, disaster management and social development ministry spokesperson Rhoda Iliya made the statement in a statement.
"We have begun moving beneficiaries from Batches A and B into government entrepreneurship schemes and engaging private sector companies to absorb some of the beneficiaries after psychometric evaluation has been completed to evaluate competency and placement in various opportunities," Iliya said.
7. Balarabe Musa Calls For Return Of Regional Government, Says Buhari, APC Incompetent
Former governor of old Kaduna State, Balarabe Musa has said the only way out for Nigeria from its current multiple challenges was to divide the country into six regions.
"Let's restructure the country and go back to the regional arrangement, and so, abolish the states and go back to the regions; we should have six or seven regions instead of the 36 states," he said.
Musa said the call for restructuring was valid, but insisted that Nigerians should be able to make clear what restructuring is.
