The reopening of schools can be determined by the state governors apart from Lagos, Kano, Ogun and FCT which has the largest infected persons of COVID 19 in Nigeria.
Despite President Muhammadu Buhari 's declaration on a gradual easing of the lock-down in the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), Lagos and Ogun states, the Federal Government has stated that there is no set date yet for schools to reopen in the region.
Cross River state has become the first territory to restart schooling operations. All public schools (state government) in Cross River State reopened yesterday June 16th as the state government is preparing a special child and other security initiatives.
So far, the state is the only state in the country without the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and is able to retain the standard, the state government is again braising the path as it began mass manufacturing of Personal Protection Equipment ( PPE) for the retrial of public schools.
The State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade, declared this in a statement made accessible by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Christian Ita, as he (Ayade) unveiled the PPE made at the state-owned garment factory, to some newsmen in Calabar yesterday.
According to Ayade, the safety equipment, which involve face masks and PPE overalls, will be distributed to schools for the usage of students and medical personnel in the state for free.
Ayade said, "Maybe we need to adopt a new lifestyle that will incorporate coronavirus into our lifestyle.. And for the State of Cross River, we are strongly committed that our children can't stay at home anymore, the more they stay, the greater the moral decadence they are, the less discipline they get, the more lazy they are back at school and start because there is time to be in class for every stage of their lives.
"I think it's good for the children to return to school because I saw that happen in China where children with their nose masks and helmets went back to school. So when you go to school, you wear your nose mask and wear a face shield. You just wear your shield, which makes more ventilation and more breathing possible.
He said: "We think it is time for the federal government to show Cross River State love and support. We have always led from the very beginning, and we believe the mass production of the PPE is another advantage for all healthcare professionals, from nurses to x-rays, to work with the PPE.
"We continue to help the free delivery of EPI through our public schools because we love our children. Our EPP is restricted only to nasal masks and face covers for schools, though. But they would be given without charge to the health staff in the Cross River Province, as the government has to recognize the costs.
The Governor made an appeal to the federal government to grant patronage, saying that the production of protective equipment for the global pandemic was part of his administration's efforts.
"Well, it's because of the fact that countries that have sought remedies have had to cope with the growing prevalence of the virus but clearly how long can we as a country wait?," said he. He. "I think the federal government is excited about encouraging schools to resume," He said.
On his part, Mr. Godwin Amanke, State Commissioner on Education, said that on 16 June, the schools' trial re-start would commence, with "students wearing face mask and facing shield in school. The children wash their hands and legs once at the school door. Hand sanitizers are also used. Hand sanitizer. If children enter the classroom, the facial mask is removed and only the face shield is used to ensure sufficient ventilation.
"They 're going to wear their masks and wear the shields once they close and return home. Teachers use the same uniforms in the school and they go under the same coronavirus.
The country is the first state to restart since the pandemic after the forcible closing of schools in March and will be pleased if this special strategy works.
